What's not to love about unfurling, heart-shaped leaves and carpets of sweet purple flowers? Violets are finally emerging all over the city and their sweetness and and care is in abundance!

In this third in a series with historian and print-making artist Jessie Merriam, we approach these moistening, playful plants from many angles. Participants will learn the medicinal and culinary uses for the plant, sample violet remedies, and then carve their own wood-blocks inspired by dear Viola.

Registration is now closed! This class has passed, but other herb/print-making collaborations are in the works...

Monday, May 22nd, 2023 * 6:30-8:30pm * Anam Cara House, 3612 Bloomington Ave S, MPLS

This class will be a primer in some of the most helpful plants to turn to for the bumps, bruises, bites and burns of summer!

Learn some basic summer herbal first aid, discuss herbs for sun protection, and visit the weeds at the ready in our own back yard. We talk about seasonal allergy prevention/relief, too.

Please come prepared to be outdoors. We'll take a short plant walk and sample some cooling teas. Summer is a great time to dive into learning new herbs, with lots of opportunity for practice, so we will focus on simple, practical remedies that you can start using right away.

The ask for this class is $15-45 sliding scale.

Please reach out if you need a different arrangement!

In April I'll again be collaborating with print-making artist Jessie Merriam for a plant-specific deep dive using print-making, herbal knowledge, and history as tools for getting to know one, single plant. This month we'll be focusing on nettles, a nourishing herb with many uses. We'll sample some nettle delights, learn a few medicinal uses for this green powerhouse, and then Jessie will lead us in creating our own woodblock prints honoring this prickly mainstay of early Spring. We'll have time while carving for conversation about this plant's remarkable versatility!
